Kurzbeschreibung

Seit 2020 ist das GZB in die neue Fraunhofer-Einrichtung für Energieinfrastrukturen und Geothermie IEG überführt. Das IEG forscht an sechs Standorten in Brandenburg, Nordrhein-Westfalen und Sachsen auf den Gebieten integrierter Energieinfrastrukturen, Geothermie und Sektorenkopplung für eine erfolgreiche Energiewende. Wir entwickeln Ideen, Technologien und Strategien für die nächste Phase der Transformation der Energiesysteme und verstehen uns als unabhängiger Vordenker für Politik, Wirtschaft, Regulierung und Gesellschaft. Durch die Gründung der Fraunhofer IEG leistet die Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft einen wesentlichen Beitrag daran, die Märkte für die Anwendung von Geothermischen Energiesystemen in Kopplung mit den Energiesektoren Wärme, Strom und Verkehr noch gezielter zur erschließen. Schwerpunktthemen sind Georessourcen und Reservoire, Bohrlochtechnologien, CO2-arme thermodynamische Wandler, Infrastrukturen für Wärme, Gas und Strom, Sektorenkopplung, Speichertechnologien für Wärme und Stoffe, Wasserstofftechnologien sowie CO2-Abscheidung.

Since 2020, the GZB has been transformed into the new Fraunhofer Institute for Energy Infrastructure and Geothermal Energy IEG. The IEG conducts research at six locations in Brandenburg, North Rhine-Westphalia and Saxony in the fields of integrated energy infrastructures, geothermal energy and sector coupling for a successful energy system transformation. We develop ideas, technologies and strategies for the next phase of the transformation of energy systems and see ourselves as an independent thought leader for politics, economy, regulation and society. By founding the Fraunhofer IEG, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is making a major contribution to opening up the markets for the application of geothermal energy systems in coupling with the energy sectors heat, electricity and transport in an even more targeted way. The main topics are georesources and reservoirs, borehole technologies, low CO2 thermodynamic converters, infrastructures for heat, gas and electricity, sector coupling, storage technologies for heat and materials, hydrogen technologies and CO2 capture.
